About Us

The name Hubinero was coined because all of the obvious domain names were already registered. Actually, Hubinero is a super awesome portmanteau word, or a blend of two or more words that creates a new word. We dig bikes, using informal terms for money and spicy food. Hub + dinero = Hubinero, which kind of sounds like habanero. How’s that for wordsmithing? Hubinero is really just a new approach to old venues. We wanted something more than overpriced auction sites and lackluster classified listings. Hubinero is our attempt to follow our passion and to share it with others. Hopefully our excitement comes through the pages of this site and you will be motivated to help us build Hubinero into a tight-knit community where we can all share what we love, riding bikes.

Our Ethos

Bikes make the world a better place.

Because we truly believe this, Hubinero pledges to donate 5% of pre-tax profits derived from advertising revenue. This amount will be divided equally and given to the following charities:

Wheels4Life

” Wheels4Life is a non-profit charity (501c(3)), that provides free bicycles for people in need of transportation in Third World countries. We partner with local individuals, organizations and other groups to help us identify persons who sincerely need a bike to be able to go to school or to work. Often these people live in very primitive and remote areas with no access or means to public transportation. The closest school, doctor or work-place might be 10 or 20 miles away. Having a bike can make all the difference in somebody’s life and can give them a chance to break out of the vicious poverty cycle. The gift of mobility, in form of a bicycle, can do miracles.” “We keep our administrative costs and overhead as low as possible. 90 - 95% of the funds received are going towards buying bikes. Everybody in our charity works on a volunteer level for free. We only have to pay some minimal bookkeeping fees to our accountant. Hans Rey pays for all his charity related travel expenses out of his own pocket. We keep the costs down as much as we can, in order to buy more bikes.”

88 Bikes

“The 88Bikes Foundation has a very simple goal: to provide a sustainable, joyful, empowering form of transportation to young people in developing countries, in situations where these children have been challenged to be their own heroes due to war, conflict, poverty, disease, or other regional hardships.” “All Sponsor bicycle donations are used to purchase and assemble the bikes, and for local transportation, so that 100% of the donated money goes directly to the local economy and to the bike donation. All other costs, such as setting up on-site 88bikeshops in various countries, running bike repair workshops, orchestrating bike repair apprenticeships, IT, travel, 88bikes volunteer programs, administrative costs and overhead are paid for by the Endowment Fund. Additional costs are paid for by the founders. 88bikes is entirely volunteer-staffed; no one, including the founders, receives salary or compensation of any kind; 88bikes does not maintain an office.”

Why Hubinero?

Hubinero is the only auction site dedicated to cycling. Hubinero is loaded with unique features and stands for a good cause. A wise person once told us that if you can find a service that people pay for and make it free, success will inevitably follow. Although Hubinero is free like a classified site, Hubinero offers the distinct advantage of facilitating the entire transaction. Don’t get us wrong, meeting up with someone in a parking lot is cool. But maybe you will agree that this type of back alley, cash-only transaction is better left for your old couch or TV. Try Hubinero today to experience the benefit of reaching a larger number of people that are all interested in bike-specific goods.
